In the last decades of the last century as imperialist forces became more and more belligerent and aggressive we felt the necessity to build up People’s Fronts against war and imperialism as the effective tool to check imperialist attacks.

It was stressed that the need of the hour is to build up broad-based fronts not only to stop war and aggression but to fight imperialism because it is imperialism which begets war.

We were of the view that such fronts are to be broad-based and inclusive of all progressive, democratic minded anti-imperialist people irrespective of their political opinions. If such movements in different countries are coordinated, a powerful global anti-imperialist movement can be released which can effectively fight against imperialist manoeuvers and machinations.

To strengthen the anti-imperialist movements in India and all over the world through organizing broad-based platforms uniting people from all walks of life who are opposed to imperialism an Anti-imperialist Convention was organized in Calcutta in 1995. Delegates from all the states of India and fraternal delegates from USA, UK, Russia, Cuba, Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands, Turkey, Iran, Zaire, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka. At this Convention the All India Anti-imperialist Forum (AIAIF) was formed involving scientists, educationists, jurists, writers, artists, dramatists and people from different sections of society to build up militant anti-imperialist movements in all corners of India and to strive for international coordination of anti-imperialist movements in different countries. Eminent jurist Justice Krishna Iyer was elected as the President and Professor Sushil Kumar Mukherjee, the distinguished scientist and educationist as the General Secretary.

The objective of the Forum was to conduct anti-imperialist movements in India and to co-ordinate with the global struggle against imperialism. Subsequently AIAIF organized three more international conferences in 1998, 2003, 2005 and 2007. Fraternal delegates from UK, USA, Russia, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, The Netherlands, Cuba, Zaire, Turkey, Palestine, Bahrain, Lebanon, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka attended these conferences. Delegates from AIAIF have attended programmes by fraternal organizations in Belgium, USA, Canada, Russia, Greece, The Netherlands, Italy, Turkey, Cuba, Philippines, Nepal, Bangladesh. At different international conferences we have raised the point about the need for a global co-ordination. The response was favourable, but no organization came forward to take up the responsibility of building up an international coordinating committee. Some groups and parties asked us to take up this responsibility. In the Conference in 2005 our proposal to have a global co-ordination of anti-imperialist struggle in different countries received endorsement from the MLCP of Turkey and Socialist Party of Bangladesh. They also mooted a proposal to have a Regional Co-ordinating Body for South and East Asia and the Arab countries. The idea of forming such a committee has received encouraging support from Mr. Ramsey Clark who has all along opposed imperialist aggression and oppression.

Accordingly, in the International Anti-imperialist Conference held in November, 2007, at Calcutta it was proposed and accepted by the assembled delegates from different parts of India and some other countries including Lebanon, Bahrain, Palestine USA, Russia, Germany, Turkey Nepal and Bangladesh, to form an international coordinating committee, named as International Anti-imperialist and People’s Solidarity coordinating Committee (IAPSCC), to coordinate the anti-imperialist movements in different countries. The delegates elected Mr. Ramsay Clark, former Attorney General of USA, as the President and Manik Mukherjee, as the General Secretary. The Committee has general members and also a Central Secretariat with representatives from different countries. The Secretariat was given the power to co-opt more members. Manik Mukherjee, General Secretary, traveled to many countries to garner support and to draw the anti-imperialist fighters in the different countries into this movement.

The Lebanese delegates at the Calcutta Conference extended an invitation for holding the Second International Anti-imperialist Conference at Beirut and promised full support to it. Mr. Manik Mukherjee traveled to Beirut to hold discussions with the Lebanese brethren and it was decided to organize the Beirut International Forum for Resistance, Anti-imperialism, Solidarity between Peoples, and Alternatives in January 2009 under the joint convenership of Consultative Center for Studies and Documentation in Beirut, International Anti-Imperialist and Peoples’ Solidarity Coordinating Committee, International Campaign against American and Zionist Occupation (Cairo Conference), Stop War Campaign (London), and with the participation of the National Gathering to Support the Choice of Resistance (Lebanon) and several other political and social forces.

The Beirut Conference was held on January 16-18, 2009, and was a grand success. It was attended by representatives of more than 450 organizations from 66 countries.  A powerful anti-imperialist Declaration was adopted calling for world wide militant opposition and resistance to imperialist, particularly US, aggressions and maneuvers in all corners of the globe.

Since then on behalf of IAPSCC Manik Mukherjee has attended anti-imperialist conferences at Germany, Turkey, Syria, Algeria, Egypt, and Sri Lanka.

The Third International Anti-imperialist Conference of IAPSCC will be held at Dhaka, Bangladesh on November 27-29, jointly with Socialist Party of Bangladesh (SPB)
